What is Trace?

Trace is a desktop app that turns screen recordings into polished step-by-step guides. Record your clicks, capture screenshots automatically per step, annotate with arrows, shapes, and text, then export as PDF, HTML, PowerPoint, or interactive animated presentations—no design skills needed.

How does Trace work?

Hit record, perform your workflow, and Trace captures each action as a step with automatic screenshot. Annotate with arrows, numbered callouts, text labels, blur/redact sensitive areas, emoji, and icons across 10 colors. Then export or share your finished guide with team members or the public.

Do I need design skills?

No. Trace handles layout and formatting automatically. You focus on the content and steps—Trace makes them look polished without any design expertise.

How do I get started?

Download the app and start on the Free plan — no credit card required. Free plan is limited to 10 guides. Upgrade to Pro or Teams when you need more.

Can I upgrade or downgrade?

You can upgrade anytime. Downgrades have limits: Free users can move up to Pro or Teams. Teams users can upgrade to Enterprise. Enterprise and Teams plans cannot be downgraded to lower tiers — contact us if your needs change.

What if I have multiple teams?

Teams plan includes multiple creator seats (up to 35), role-based access (Editor/Viewer), and viewer seats at $2/seat/month. Perfect for agencies and organizations managing guides across departments.

Can I collaborate with my team?

Teams plan members can access shared guides with role-based permissions. One person edits at a time, and team members leave step-level comments for review and feedback.

How many guides can I create?

Free plan: 10 guides. Pro and Teams plans: unlimited guides. Upgrade or downgrade anytime.

What export formats are supported?

PDF, self-contained HTML, PowerPoint (.pptx), and interactive animated presentations with cursor animations. Share via private or public links.

What support do you offer?

Email support at support@trytrace.net. Pro and Teams users get priority response. Free users can visit help resources.

Is my data secure?

Screenshots and guide assets are stored in Supabase Storage, which uses row-level security so only authorized users can access your files. Data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest. Enterprise plan includes optional end-to-end encryption — your content is encrypted before it leaves your device, so even Trace cannot read it.
